Support Emergency Relief Activation in Nepal with World Central Kitchen

Catastrophic flash flooding struck northern Nepal on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026, after a glacier collapsed on the Nepal-China border, sending a devastating debris flow more than 60 miles downstream along the Trishuli River. Villages were washed away, roads and bridges destroyed, and entire communities were cut off, reachable only by helicopter or on foot.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), the disaster has caused immense damage and humanitarian needs. As of September 1st, 2026:
• the death toll stands at 987 people,
• 4,247 people remain missing,
• at least 93,000 people have been affected and are in urgent need,
• thousands have been displaced, with damaged infrastructure and livelihoods still being assessed.

World Central Kitchen is on the ground in Nepal’s Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, partnering with local restaurant partners to serve meals and open community kitchens for those affected as they begin their road to recovery.

All donations received through this Fund are currently exclusively directed to the relief efforts in Nepal.

Context

World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines, providing fresh meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

When disaster strikes, hungry people cannot wait until tomorrow or next week – the urgent need is now.

A warm meal, tailored to the cultural values and recipes of the local community, brings more than nutrition and calories. It offers hope, dignity, and the reassurance that communities are not alone during times of crises. 

Donations to this fund will be used to serve fresh, comforting meals to communities in crisis.

Goals

Get food directly and rapidly to communities impacted by crises worldwide, while also supporting  local livelihoods, businesses, and economies.

Activities

  • Serve fresh, nourishing meals to support communities impacted by climate, humanitarian, and community crises;
  • Work side by side with local vendors, volunteers, restaurants, and community organizations to invest resources back into crisis-afflicted areas; and
  • Provide comfort and hope when needed the most, with a focus on empathy, dignity, and adapting to meet communities’ needs.

Myriad Canada is working with World Central Kitchen on this project. WCK is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines, providing fresh meals in response to crises. Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, their model of taking quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time has enabled WCK to serve hundreds of millions of nourishing, chef-prepared meals around the world.

Myriad Canada’s role is to carry out charitable projects across the globe in accordance with its charitable purposes. We control and monitor the use of funds and the progress of charitable activities to ensure that donations made to Myriad Canada have the greatest impact.
