Ukraine Emergency Fund with World Central Kitchen

Context

At the end of February 2022, Myriad Canada launched an Ukraine Emergency Fund, in response to the tragic humanitarian crisis affecting the country. In 2025, 12.7 million people will need humanitarian aid in Ukraine according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Contributions will be distributed to projects implemented by World Central Kitchen (WCK), which works on the front line of the conflict. WCK’s dedication remains as steadfast as it was the day they served hot meals to evacuees within hours of Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

WCK’s team in Ukraine constantly adapts to meet the needs of impacted families. With the support of a dedicated team of hundreds of Ukrainians, WCK is reaching cities in active conflict zones, liberated towns, and communities hosting displaced families. Their teams are providing hot meals, fresh bread, drinking water, food kits, traditional vegetables, and cooking facilities across Ukraine.

WCK is implementing a community-first approach to providing relief through a network of strategically located, WCK-supplied, and locally-run kitchens. WCK’s teams are supporting the resiliency of local residents through seed kit and chicken coop programs, doing their utmost to help the people of Ukraine gain autonomy and maintain access to quality food sources. While it is unclear how long the crisis will last, WCK will continue to serve hot meals, distribute vegetable and food kits, provide water, and hand out seeds to families to be planted for household gardens.

Myriad Canada’s role is to carry out charitable projects across the globe in accordance with its charitable purposes. We control and monitor the use of funds and the progress of charitable activities to ensure that donations made to Myriad Canada have the greatest impact in accordance with donors’ expressed wishes.
