Symbols have the power to transcend words, politics, and language barriers.
Benjamin Von Wong’s, a Canadian artist and photographer, has consistently demonstrated this, by being a disruptive environmental artist creating large-scale installations at global gatherings, transforming discarded materials into symbols of change.
At the UN Biodiversity Conference and again at the Global Plastic Treaty negotiations, the monuments he created became more than art: they became rallying points, visual metaphors that crystallized complex debates into a single, unforgettable image and experience.
His most recent installation, The Thinker’s Burden, generated over 5.5 billion media impressions across 2,000 mainstream outlets, from the BBC to The Guardian, becoming the symbol of the (failed) plastic treaty negotiations themselves.
