Context

Africa is the youngest continent in the world, with 60% of its population under the age of 25. By 2050, Africa will represent one-quarter of humanity, making the empowerment of its youth essential for both the continent’s development and for global progress. While this rapidly growing youth population holds immense potential for social, economic, and cultural transformation, persistent barriers continue to deny young people, especially young women, opportunities to reach their full potential.

Key challenges include:

  • Gender Inequality and Violence
  • Limited Educational Access
  • Economic Disparities
  • Youth Unemployment
  • Lack of Safe Spaces for Growth

Goals

This fund is a critical response to these pressing issues, designed to break down systemic barriers and create transformative pathways for empowerment, equipping the next generation of African leaders with the tools, confidence, and resources needed to drive sustainable change and build a brighter, more equitable future for all.

Recognizing the growing needs and persistent gaps, the aim of this project is to empower African youth through leadership and sports development, education, gender equality, skills training, mentorship, and community activation programs.

Activities

Activities may include:

  • Youth Leadership Camps: structured mentorship and leadership training programs aimed at equipping young African leaders with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to drive positive change within their communities. They will equip participants with essential leadership skills, fostering confidence, decision-making, and teamwork. Camps combine basketball coaching with workshops on education, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and confidence-building. Camps emphasize inclusivity and tailored programming to meet diverse community needs.
  • Alumni Programs: lifelong support system for past program participants, fostering mentorship, peer learning, and ongoing leadership development. This initiative aims to create a circular mentorship model where youth who were once campers transition into facilitators and mentors continuously empowering new generations of youth across Africa.
  • Women’s Empowerment Initiatives: addresses the systemic social and economic barriers faced by girls and women across Africa by promoting gender equality through mentorship initiatives and leadership programs. Workshops will provide girls and women with the knowledge and skills necessary to become financially independent, take on leadership roles, and advocate for gender equality.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Number of youth trained annually through leadership camps.
  • Number of young women participating in mentorship and leadership programs.
  • Number of alumni actively mentoring new participants and leading community-driven initiatives.
