Context

Many seniors and underserved families in Northern Metn, about 30 km northeast of Beirut in Mount Lebanon, have limited access to healthcare, social support, and opportunities for meaningful daily engagement.

To address this gap, Vitalis St John was created with a model rooted in community, care, and connection. Through partnerships with local and international organizations, health professionals, and compassionate citizens, it provides preventive health screenings and consultations, holistic daytime care for seniors, health education and wellness activities, and social inclusion for the region’s most vulnerable residents.

Goals

The project aims to bring dignity, vitality, and compassionate support to Lebanon’s most vulnerable residents by launching the country’s first preventive care and seniors daycare center, offering high-quality medical services, wellness programs, and enriching daytime engagement in a warm and respectful environment.

Activities

  • Primary and Specialized Medical Care for Individuals and Families: Comprehensive care is provided through preventive medicine, management of acute conditions, and treatment of chronic illnesses.
  • Mobile Medical Outreach: In partnership with the Hôpital Hôtel Dieu de France (HDF), a fully equipped mobile clinic delivers care to underserved neighborhoods across Northern Metn, overcoming distance and mobility barriers.
  • Laboratory Services: HDF’s on-site laboratory ensures timely diagnostic testing, including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, hormonology, and immunology, enabling effective and tailored care.
  • Seniors Daycare Services: A safe, supportive, and enriching space where older adults remain active and connected. The center relieves caregiver burdens, enriches daily lives, and fosters a community where aging is approached with compassion, purpose, and respect.
  • Prevention Begins with Awareness: Education and awareness programs empower families with the knowledge to make informed health choices and adopt healthier lifestyles, contributing to a more resilient and proactive community.

Myriad Canada is working with RISE 4 LIFE on the implementation of this centre. Vitalis St. John is a pioneering community care initiative based at the Monastery of Saint John the Baptist in Khenchara, a village nestled in the Northern Metn District of Mount Lebanon. The monastery provides both a symbolic and physical foundation for the project, rooted in centuries of service, spirituality, and education. From this historic site, Vitalis St John delivers healthcare and social services to seniors and underserved families across Northern Metn, reaching more than 120,000 people.

Myriad Canada’s role is to carry out charitable activities across the globe in accordance with its charitable purposes.
