Context

Four years into the full-scale war, Ukraine faces an acute rehabilitation crisis, with millions of internally displaced persons and tens of thousands suffering from severe physical injuries and trauma.

Regional municipal hospitals in Western and Central Ukraine are overwhelmed and lack accessible, specialized facilities and modern physical rehabilitation equipment. There is an urgent need to expand outpatient/inpatient rehabilitation capacities to allow Ukrainians to recover dignity and reintegrate into society.

Goals

The goal of this project is to expand regional physical rehabilitation infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Kharkiv regions by constructing two modular rehabilitation centers and providing modern medical rehabilitation equipment across three community hospitals in Dolyna, Merefa, and Sambir, serving over 150 patients daily.

Activities

The project involves a three-location infrastructure and equipment expansion:

  • Dolyna (Ivano-Frankivsk Region): Construction of a turnkey modular rehabilitation center (~180–200 sq.m) adjacent to the Dolyna Central Regional Hospital, fully equipped with active/passive physiotherapy machines, mobility training equipment, and barrier-free treatment rooms.
  • Sambir (Lviv Region): Construction of a modular rehabilitation center (~180 sq.m) and installation of specialized physical therapy equipment to serve the local hospital’s growing outpatient flow.
  • Merefa (Kharkiv Region): Provision of specialized medical rehabilitation equipment (kinesiotherapy apparatus, specialized tables, rehabilitation treadmills, and mobility aids) to equip the existing municipal rehabilitation ward.

Myriad Canada is working with MoveUkraine on this project, a nonprofit whose mission is to care for internally displaced Ukrainians who have lost their homes and need support. They create modern rehabilitation centers for people affected by war, helping them restore their health, strength, and hope for a better future.
